The Team:

The PACER (Police, Ambulance, Clinician, Early Response) Team will be staffed by Mental Health Clinicians, Police Officers and Paramedics who are dedicated to providing a rapid, specialist response to acute mental health or behavioural concerns in the community. The function of this team is to provide timely, integrated and coordinated mental health care, including mental health service based secondary triage, mental health assessment, brief interventions and ongoing referrals.

The position requires extensive knowledge of mental health issues and common co-morbidities and demonstrated high level clinical practice to provide brief evidence base interventions, treatment and care coordination in collaboration with consumers and their families and friends within a trauma informed and recovery oriented framework. They will also require the skills and ability to deliver formal and informal education to emergency services who work with consumers with complex mental and physical health needs. The successful applicants will be highly adaptive, flexible and collaborative.

The Role:

As part of an acute care multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the principles of recovery orientated and trauma informed care, a primary health model, Agency policy and direction, legal and ethical requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Clinical Nurse Consultant - PACER works in close partnership with nominated staff from Tasmania Police and Ambulance Tasmania to provide a timely response to people experiencing mental health emergencies in the community

You will need:

* Proven ability to undertake advanced comprehensive mental health and risk assessments of people experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and application of contemporary and evidence-based skills in relation to crisis intervention, including the formulation of safety plans and the provision of brief therapeutic interventions as required.
* Demonstrated knowledge of relevant philosophies, such as trauma informed care and recovery principles and policies and procedures and associated legislation which impact upon the management of crises across the community.
* Proven high level interpersonal skills including oral and written communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and decision-making skills and the ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families/carer, colleagues and emergency service and hospital personnel, particularly in crisis situations.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 71.44 hours per fortnight, to commence as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Location: Hobart

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

* Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

* Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

* Holds or is working towards a relevant post graduate qualification
* Experience in working in partnership with emergency services personnel in a manner that reflects a spirit of cooperation and collaboration, and respect for each other’s philosophy, priorities, knowledge, skills, and experience
* Current Driver’s Licence
