Set across three distinct levels - a public bar and bistro, Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and cocktail lounge, and intimate private event spaces - The Angel delivers casual luxury for the community. A place for locals to unwind, connect and celebrate.

We're now seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to help bring this landmark venue to life.

About the Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead the culinary direction of one of Melbourne's most anticipated hospitality openings.

As Head Chef, you will take full ownership of kitchen operations, menu development and food execution across this multi-level venue, playing a critical role in establishing strong operational foundations from pre-opening through to ongoing success.

Reporting to the Venue Manager and working closely with the General Operations Manager, you'll balance creativity with commercial discipline- delivering high-quality, consistent food while driving strong margins, team capability and operational excellence.

This is a hands‐on leadership role for a Head Chef who thrives in high‐volume, premium environments and takes pride in building teams and systems that perform.

What You'll Do

* Lead and manage all kitchen operations, ensuring consistent food quality, efficient service delivery and compliance with food safety and WH&S requirements.
* Develop, cost and deliver menus in line with the venue concept, brand standards and commercial targets, with all menus approved prior to launch.
* Drive food cost control, labour efficiency and overall kitchen profitability in line with budgeted expectations.
* Plan, roster and manage kitchen labour to align with sales forecasts and trading conditions.
* Oversee stock management including ordering, storage, stock rotation, stocktakes, loss prevention and supplier relationships.
* Train, mentor and develop a high‐performing kitchen team, fostering accountability, professionalism and pride in execution.
* Maintain kitchen cleanliness, equipment upkeep and maintenance programs to ensure safe, efficient operations.
* Analyse sales performance and food trends, recommending menu changes and initiatives to improve guest appeal and commercial outcomes.
* Collaborate closely with the General Manager and senior leadership to support events, activations and venue‐wide initiatives.
* Always uphold the integrity of the venue concept, ensuring food menus consistently align with the intended standards and direction.

About You

You're a confident, organised and commercially minded Head Chef who leads from the front. You care deeply about quality and consistency, but you also understand the numbers behind a successful kitchen. Calm under pressure, you take pride in running a disciplined operation and developing teams that want to stay and grow.

You'll also bring:

* 5-7+ years' experience in commercial kitchens, with at least 2 years as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef
* Proven experience leading high‐volume, multi‐service or premium hospitality venues
* Strong capability in menu development, costing and food margin control
* Demonstrated success managing kitchen labour, rostering and productivity
* Solid knowledge of food safety, WH&S and compliance obligations
* A track record of building, training and retaining engaged kitchen teams
* Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with senior leadership
* A hands‐on, solutions‐focused mindset with high attention to detail
