About the Assignment
The Senior Project Controls Specialist role will provide cost control and planning/scheduling support to the PNG Drilling and Completions (D&C) department, and the Brownfields Projects team within the Developments and Projects department. They will also provide support on an as-needs basis in other areas within the PNG project portfolio.
The Senior Project Controls Specialist works closely with the Manager D&C Drilling and the PNG Project Services Manager to provide expert technical advice and guidance to ensure a consistent approach for cost and schedule management is achieved, and where required, supports the development of documents, processes and tools to support the various activities within the portfolio.
Tasks include:
Cost Control
* Provide cost control advice, analysis and support within relevant support areas including:
Variance analysis and investigation
Costing, forecasting and statistics
Process improvements
Delegation of Authority administration
* Monitor and report on expenditures, commitments and forecasts for the team including:
Establish and maintain appropriate Project Controls
Prepare Budgets and AFE's
Ensure costs are correctly allocated in conjunction with finance
Ensure final forecast costs and commitments for each of the key activity areas are current
Prepare cost control reports
* Assist D&C and Projects teams with preparation of AFE estimates through:
Maintenance of cost book and contract rates in cost estimation tools
Data analysis of historical costs and trends
* In conjunction with Santos Accounts Payable, ensure that the receipting and payment of invoices is conducted in a timely manner
* Support raising of SES's in SAP in support of invoices and raise PR's for new Purchase Orders
* Support preparation of Cost Breakdown Structure within SAP, in conjunction with Finance
Planning and Scheduling
* Develop and manage schedule(s), coordinating and incorporating Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Owner's team, and contractor data (as required / appropriate)
* Maintain project schedule versions (e.g. baseline, control budget, concept alternatives) to enable management of change and comparison between reporting periods
* Lead regular interactive, cross-functional planning sessions to ensure that the schedule is fully integrated and appropriately reviewed / challenged by all stakeholders
* Proactively identify, analyse, and advise project management team regarding schedule risks (i.e. clashes, changes in critical path) ensuring these are appropriately reflected
* Evaluate impacts through sensitivity analysis to identify optimum / alternative project strategies to resolve problems / issues
* Implement regular schedule reporting regarding performance versus plan (incl. deviations)
* Own and develop schedule documentation, i.e. basis of schedule, schedule management plan, master project schedule
* Review and steward contractors' planning and scheduling performance in compliance with contract requirements
* Support project management team with schedule communication presentation to business leadership.
* Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as industry best practice where appropriate
* Support the enhancement and development of project controls systems and processes
* Support any third-party analysis and benchmarking activities,
* Support adhoc requests or other project areas as required.
This assignment is initially offered for 12 months, engaged via Chandler Macleod.
Location for this assignment is Brisbane working full-time office hours.
About You
* Tertiary qualified in engineering, accounting, finance, commerce, project management or other relevant upstream oil and gas qualification
* Extensive experience in Project Controls is required
* Relevant planning / project controls / management-related certifications are desirable
* Proficiency with project controls tools and software; including Microsoft Excel, SAP, Power BI, Oracle Primavera P6, and Contruent Prism Cost Control platform is desirable.
* Demonstrated track record in the successful completion of cost control tasks with limited supervision
* In-depth knowledge of project change control and cost forecasting
* Knowledge of planning and scheduling processes
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, proficient in oral and written communications
