Drive innovation in power electronics and shape the future of wireless electric vehicle charging.

About Us

Join a high-performing research team at Macquarie University to help develop next-generation wireless charging technology for electric vehicles. This industry-led project brings together electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering experts to create an integrated solution for efficient wireless battery charging, with strong potential for real-world deployment and impact.

The role

As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will focus primarily on power electronics design and development, including high-frequency inverter systems, control strategies, and hardware implementation for wireless charging applications. You will also contribute to system-level integration, prototype development, and laboratory testing of WPT systems in collaboration with civil and mechanical researchers.

In this role, you will take the lead in designing and developing the power-electronic systems that drive wireless charging pads, including inverter design, control strategies, system optimisation, and laboratory validation. Working at the intersection of advanced power electronics and applied electromagnetics, you will contribute to innovative infrastructure solutions that support sustainable transport.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Research Fellow to advance their research career, collaborate with industry partners, and contribute to a project that aligns closely with Australia's clean-energy and transport-electrification priorities.

Some of your key responsibilities include

* Design, develop and implement (hardware) high-frequency inverters, power-electronic converters, and control strategies for wireless EV charging systems.
* Conduct simulations and electromagnetic modelling with Ansys/ COMSOL.
* Collaborate with civil and mechanical engineering teams on integration of electrical hardware within magnetised concrete infrastructure.
* Lead laboratory testing, characterisation, and validation of inverter hardware and system performance.
* Prepare technical reports, documentation, and deliverables for industry partners.
* Contribute to conference papers, journal publications, and final project reporting.

How to Apply

To be considered, please apply online with your CV and a cover letter (no more than 1 page) outlining how your experience aligns with the following selection criteria:

* A PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong focus on power electronics or converter design.
* Demonstrated hands on experience in inverter design, control, and experimental testing, ideally at high frequency.
* Experience with modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Ansys/ COMSOL (desired)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and research publications (desired).
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

For enquiries, or a confidential conversation about the role please contact Associate Professor Sara Deilami, .

Applications Close: Wednesday 11th of March at 11:59pm (AEST).
