This is a community development and prevention role — not an enforcement role.

What You Will Do
* Support the delivery of practical, prevention‐focused community safety responses and improve perceptions of safety and community confidence in public spaces, including place‐based activation, graffiti responses, CPTED‐informed approaches and community‐centred governance of surveillance.
* Work collaboratively with residents, young people, traders, community groups, Victoria Police and Council teams to support local problem‐solving, building trust and ensure community safety activity reflects local context, lived experience and community strengths.
* Support effective coordination across services and place‐based responses by sharing insights, contributing to reporting, and helping ensure community safety activity is timely, visible, well‐communicated and aligned across teams. This includes supporting community education, engagement and reassurance in priority places.
* Work in a prevention and community‐capacity building function (non‐compliance), using engagement, activation and partnership responses rather than enforcement.
What You'll Bring/what We Are Looking For
* Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Criminology, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience in community development, engagement, or place‐based practice with the ability to design, implement and evaluate prevention and safer‐places initiatives.
* Proven capacity to work independently and collaboratively, contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams across Council and external partners.
* Highly developed communication skills, with proven ability to engage diverse communities (including complex needs), build trust, and support community‐led problem solving in safety or wellbeing contexts.
* Demonstrated ability to be flexible and proactive, with strong problem‐solving, risk awareness and critical thinking in community safety or community‐facing roles.
Pre‐employment Requirements
* Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
* Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (Previously known as a police check).
* Current Working with Children's Check.
We Offer
* A Permanent, part time role (24 hours/3 days per week) days can be negotiated.
* Salary range $62,055.80 to $67,465.75 per annum plus super (dependent on experience). For comparison, at full time, this is equivalent to $98,255.03–$106,820.88 per annum.
* 26 weeks of paid parental leave - primary carer / 4 weeks of paid parental leave - partner.
