This is where jobs become careers, passion finds its purpose, and your voice finds its place. Are you ready to dive headfirst into the community taking excellent health care where it's needed? Then South Metropolitan Health Service is the perfect place to start!
Our vision is Excellent health care, every time. You can read more about SMHS in our Strategic Plan here.
Peel Health Campus is a general hospital located in the City of Mandurah, 75 km south of Perth on the doorstep of the south-west. The hospital opened in 1988 as the 32-bed Mandurah District Hospital, before expanding in the 1990s to include a 24 / 7 Emergency Department, Operating theatres, Inpatient services (medical, surgical, paediatric and palliative care) and Ambulatory Care services (chemotherapy and renal dialysis).
In August 2024, operational management of the Peel Health Campus transitioned from the previous private operator, Ramsay Health Care, to the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS), paving the way for the integration of the hospital within the SMHS network, and planned expansion of services and redevelopment of the hospital.
In November 2020 the State Government announced the redevelopment and expansion of the Peel Health Campus to provide residents of the Peel-Murray region with a greater choice and access to a range of healthcare services closer to home: More outpatient services, additional inpatient beds, 12 additional chemotherapy places, 20 mental health inpatient beds, a new 10-bed Mental Health Emergency Centre, one additional operating theatre, at least 15 palliative care hospice beds, new build of medical imaging services, reconfiguration and expansion of the Day Procedure Unit, reconfiguration of the Emergency Department and Support Service expansion to facilitate increased capacity.
