The Opportunity

If you are actively studying a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting, Business or a similar degree and have at least completed equivalent of 1-year full‐time study load and not more than one and a half years full‐time study load with plans to work toward Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) accreditation, this role is your backstage pass to the world of Business Accounting. You won't be sitting on the sidelines; you'll be diving into real work that builds real skills. You'll learn the ins and outs of financial management while teaming up with managers and senior accountants who genuinely enjoy sharing their knowledge. Along the way, you'll get to explore strategy work, business reporting, project support, and collaboration across the organisation. It's the kind of hands‐on experience that grows your confidence, shows you how a professional team operates, and sets you up for an exciting future in the industry.

Grow your career with us

You'll have plenty of support to help you grow, including financial assistance toward your uni fees and dedicated exam leave so you can juggle study and work more easily. Each year, you'll rotate through different areas of the Finance Division, giving you the chance to explore budgeting, financial reporting, investments, financial and management accounting, property rating, corporate planning, systems, and more. You'll get opportunities to work on real projects that stretch your skills and take concrete steps toward professional accounting accreditation. With guidance from experienced mentors, you'll build a strong network within the Undergraduate Development Program—many of whom have gone on to exciting roles across Council—so you'll be surrounded by a community genuinely invested in your success.

This is a Permanent Full‐Time position. Commencing salary $66,694.98 per annum plus superannuation, increasing incrementally annually by a minimum of 5.5% over the first 3 years on top of the approved Enterprise Agreement increases.

About You

You are currently studying Accounting, Commerce, Business or a similar degree, with the equivalent of 1‐year full‐time study load and not more than one and a half years full‐time study load, and can confidently juggle full‐time work while continuing your studies. You are eager to step into a role that will accelerate your career path. You bring strong numeracy, literacy, advanced analytical problem‐solving skills, and emerging communication abilities that allow you to engage confidently with people at all levels.

You are committed to pursuing Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification, motivated to build the practical skills and experience that will get you there, and capable of working both independently and with guidance as needed. Organised, hardworking, and naturally driven, you are someone who shows up ready to learn and give your best every day. You enjoy working with others, bring a customer‐focused mindset, and have a good foundation in confidentiality, discretion, and WHS awareness. Most importantly, you are excited about the chance to grow, challenge yourself, and be part of a team where your ambition and career goals are supported every step of the way.
