Tasmanian | The quiet pursuit of the extraordinary
About the Role and Team: The Department of Health is seeking motivated and experienced Medical Practitioners to work as part of the Department of Emergency Medicine across Tasmania’s North West Region. The Registrar – Emergency Medicine provides emergency medical care to patients attending the Department of Emergency Medicine at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH). The NWRH is a contemporary facility that provides acute care and is a University Teaching Hospital for the Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania.
The NWRH Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 28,000 patients per year with 28% admission rate. It treats patients aged 0-100+, ATS 1-5. NWRH is the Regional Trauma Centre and provides inpatient care across medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology and mental health. It supports a large outpatient department with tertiary outreach services from the Royal Hobart Hospital and extensive Oncology services. It is the referral centre for several district hospitals including King Island. The department offers teaching opportunities and supervision under FACEMs and participates in the EMET program for emergency medicine training.
There are opportunities for trainees approaching fellowship to be rostered on the consultant roster with FACEM supervision. A Senior Registrar role is available for those with fellowship progress or completed exams. The ED is accredited for twelve months of Emergency Medicine training and offers options in Paediatric Emergency Requirements, Advanced Skills Posts, and rotations in related specialties.
We have a diverse team with clinicians from more than ten countries. FACEMs have backgrounds in simulation, toxicology, PEM, mental health, palliative care, humanitarian contexts and other areas. One of our FACEMs or current registrars can discuss their experiences with you.
