Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community-led Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, family support, and wellbeing programs across a vast 162,000 km2 region in the NT — from the WA border to the Tanami Desert.

The Strong Beginnings team is heading into an exciting new chapter.
The current Manager, with years of experience at KWHB, is transitioning into a new opportunity within the organisation. Their leadership has helped establish strong foundations across maternal and child health, built trusting relationships in community, and fostered a collaborative, culturally safe team culture.
As the incoming Manager, you'll benefit from a comprehensive handover and transition period, where you'll be supported to step confidently into the role while learning from someone with deep organisational and community knowledge. It's a rare opportunity to inherit a high-functioning team, access long-term insights, and continue the work that's already making a meaningful impact.
With a team of around 10 staff, this is your chance to lead a well-resourced program at a milestone moment. KWHB is in the early stages of implementing a comprehensive Maternal, Child and Young Person health model of care, with this role playing a key part in delivering its core objectives.
You'll also play a central role in strengthening the connection between clinical and social care, ensuring clients receive coordinated, holistic support from the wider multidisciplinary healthcare team.
What to Expect Early On
Your first few weeks will be all about learning, connecting, and building relationships, not only with your team, but with the broader organisation and the remote communities across the KWHB region.
This is a solid opportunity to gain deep insight into the team, the region, and the program's evolution.
In the first 30-60 days, you'll:
* Be introduced to key stakeholders across the executive, clinical, and community space
* Spend time shadowing and collaborating with your predecessor to understand what's working
* Begin building one-on-one relationships with each of your team members
* Familiarise yourself with service models, remote clinic operations, and integration with family services
* Participate in strategic planning and identify where your leadership can create impact early
This is a role where relationship-building is success, especially early on. You'll have time, space and support to step in confidently, without needing to reinvent the wheel.

We're also looking for:
* AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife
* Leadership experience in maternal, child, or public health settings
* Experience working in remote, rural, or Aboriginal community-controlled contexts
* Understanding of trauma-informed care, DFSV, and coordination of complex health needs
* Strong communication, planning, stakeholder engagement and governance skills
What You'll Be Doing
* Leading a multidisciplinary team across cultural liaison, child health, midwifery, education, and support roles
* Managing service delivery across remote communities and regional hubs
* Embedding case review and case conferencing practices to strengthen care
* Coordinating clinical governance and ensuring culturally safe practice
* Working with community leaders and cultural advisors to improve access and inclusion
* Leading professional development and performance planning for your team
* Liaising with hospitals, specialist services, and health centres to streamline care pathways
* Collaborating with the Family Services team to comprehensively integrate clinical and social care
