Our specially trained doctors, nurses and aircrew use helicopters, turbo prop aircraft, aeromedical jets and patient transport vehicles to provide critical support to over 8,500 patients each year.

The role

We currently have an an opportunity for a Group Financial Controller to join the organisation and become a key member of CareFlight’s Finance team.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the key objectives for this role will be to manage the company wide financial reporting process and ensure an adequate system of accounting records, policies, procedures and controls is in place to mitigate risk. As well as overseeing GST & FBT Compliance, Treasury management and supporting the CFO in delivering digital transformation.

Responsibilities for this role will include but not be limited to:

•Responsible for Group-wide financial reporting in accordance with GAAP requirements.

•Coordinate end-of-month/year processes to prepare Company financial results.

•Manage preparation of Company accounts and monthly Board finance reports including budget/forecast variance analysis.

•Manage preparation of Annual Financial Report and ACNC annual reporting.

•Coordinate annual aircraft and property valuation process for fair value reporting purposes.

•Manage external audit process and support CFO with Audit Committee reporting.

•Support CFO with preparation of AGM presentations.

•Oversee preparation of supporting documentation for key accounting policies or technical accounting position papers.

•Recommend and implement improvements to processes to speed up month end and year end close.

•Provide input into the production of the annual budget and forecasts.

•Provide input into financial analysis to support commercial decisions regarding capital investments, pricing, and contract negotiations.

•Oversee the processing of financial transactions, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Banking, Credit Cards, Staff Expense Reimbursements and Customer Refunds.

•Oversee Payroll team for processing of payroll, PAYG, superannuation and workers compensation payments and reporting requirements.

•Oversee all tax related areas including GST and FBT compliance and reporting requirements and liaising with external tax advisers as required.

•Assess, quantify, and communicate financial risks and opportunities.

•Collaborate with stakeholders to develop risk mitigation strategies.

•Stay informed about industry trends and regulatory changes affecting financial performance.

•Oversee the finance/accounting ERP system(s).

•Maintain the chart of accounts.

•Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions and records.

•Work with CFO and Group Commercial Manager in establishing, maintaining and improving the financial control process and environment.

•Support CFO in driving process automation, systems integration and development and execution of solutions to improve efficiencies and ultimately deliver better and more timely business insights.

•Manage weekly and monthly group cashflow reporting and forecasting, foreign currency accounting policies and treasury functions including compliance with lending covenants.

•Assist in managing banking and treasury relationships and ensure smooth operations of bank accounts, treasury functions, day to day transactional banking and financing arrangement.

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

•CA/CPA qualified or overseas equivalent.

•A personality with ‘gravitas’, with demonstrated ability to ‘make a case’ in a high tempo technical environment.

•Big 4 or mid-tier audit experience.

•At least 15 years relevant professional experience with at least five years’ experience in similar roles.

•Ability to effectively manage and deliver on multiple simultaneous priorities.

•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong technical (accounting & tax) acumen.

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people at all levels (internal and external).

•Demonstrated understanding of foreign currency and valuations.

•Demonstrated experience in proactively improving existing processes, procedures, and systems.

•Willingness to be hand-on as well as coach and develop others within the team.

•Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.

•Advanced excel and system skills.

•Excellent written and oral communication.

•Able to communicate financial information to a variety of internal personnel, both financially and non-financially literate.

•Highly organised and detail conscious with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.

•Proficient with Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

•Able to work autonomously.

•Strong customer service mindset with a team player mentality.
