About the opportunity An exciting opportunity for a committed Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Safeguards Team in NBMLHD. The Safeguards Team, established in Penrith, is expanding to provide care to the Blue Mountains and Lithgow region. The Psychiatrist will provide medical leadership to a senior team delivering time-limited care to children and young people aged 0-17 years experiencing acute mental distress, with a substantial Aboriginal population. The role includes working with the Team's Clinical Lead to build partnerships and contribute to ongoing evaluation and development of the model of care.

About the Safeguards Team The team is part of the interdisciplinary Child Youth and Family Mental Health stream, with portfolios including Child and Youth Mental Health Teams, Whole Family Team and Perinatal Infant Mental Health Team. The Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit is being established and will open later in 2025. NBMLHD covers the Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions.

Working with NBMLHD NBMLHD is committed to collaborative engagement with consumer and carer representatives, flexible work practices, training opportunities, and links to universities to strengthen training and research agendas. Successful applicants participate in a District-wide CYF-MH Consultant after-hours roster. The role may include work in other parts of the Mental Health Service as negotiated with the Medical Director.

Selection Criteria

* Possess or be eligible for registration with AHPRA; Fellowship of RANZCP or equivalent; Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; NSW driver's license; commitment to Continuing Professional Development and reflective practice.
* Demonstrated expertise in providing high-quality mental health services in a psychiatry setting; commitment to person-centered, recovery-oriented, family-inclusive, trauma-informed and need-adapted care.
* Ability to work in interprofessional contexts including lived-experience professionals; comprehensive knowledge of psychiatry across biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual domains.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce clear, inclusive documentation.
* Experience in teaching and supervising medical staff, non-medical colleagues and students; commitment to interprofessional learning.
* Qualities and values consistent with a senior clinician delivering mental health care to consumers across the age span; high ethical and professional standards.
* Experience in quality improvement and clinical governance; commitment to high-quality public sector care.
* Familiarity with research activities relevant to Mental Health Service and ability to apply evidence-based concepts to practice.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award. Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
