* 20 hours p/w

This role is a forward-facing, people-focussed position that aims to facilitate volunteer and member involvement with the Co-op’s activities, activate the space, and connect the Co-op with the broader community.

THE EMPLOYER

The Food Co-operative Shop is Australia’s oldest food co-operative. It has been our mission to provide ‘food for people, not for profit’ since 1976. We operate a member-owned-and-run bulk food store, community hub, catering service, events space and popular cafe. We aim to increase access to affordable, local, ethical and sustainable products, support the production of local produce and promote environmentally and socially just living.

What is the purpose of paid-staff roles at the Co-op?
* To ensure consistency of our core activities, and to lead members in a way that encourages them to engage with the Co-op!
* To provide a consistent voice on behalf of the Co-op in the community
* Work flexibly with the Co-manager team, and adapt to the day-to-day needs of the Co-op.
* To delegate tasks to volunteers where possible, to encourage member engagement & agency in the running of our Co-op
Volunteer (Working Member) Management specific duties (Approx 6-8 hours per week)
* Acting as the main point of contact for volunteers, both new and existing, as well as kitchen staff (cooks)
* Supporting, expanding, retaining and coordinating volunteers
* Ensuring rosters for core volunteer tasks are filled (shop/cafe coordinating, dishwashing, food prep and service)
* Managing the administration of volunteer rewards including store credits.
* Facilitating an inclusive work environment that enables safe access to all members of our community
* Responsible for the Co-op’s membership strategy and management of the membership database
Outreach Management specific duties (Approx 6-8 hours per week)
* Responding to queries re: outside catering and events
* Develop and maintain a regular calendar of Co-op led events, ensuring volunteer participation (e.g: cooking workshops, Thursday Night Dinners, etc)
* Liaise between cooks, bakers, delivery drivers and other volunteers to ensure events and catering requests are handled efficiently and effectively
* Responsible for ensuring the ‘Fresh In!’ newsletter is issued each fortnight
* Support initiatives for increasing membership, engagement and volunteering including membership drives and special events (e.g. 50th anniversary celebrations)
* Maintain and pursue productive collaborations with partner organisations
* Manage the Food Co-op’s social media and website updates
* Seek out opportunities for media engagement
General Co-manager duties (Approx 3-5 hours per week)
* Uphold the Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures of The Food Co-op, in line with relevant legislation
* Processing and raising invoices with the bookkeeper that relate to events/catering billing
* Facilitating the counting of cash and banking in collaboration with other Co-Managers
* Monitor email correspondence relating to Working Members, membership and events at the Co-op
* Contribute to monthly Co-Managers report
* Ensuring effective communication between Working Members and the Board, between different Working Member groups and external clients/organisations
* Support with administrative tasks of the Co-op office, as required, working as a Co-manager team to ensure smooth operations.
* Support the bookkeeper as the relevant contact for banking and financial matters as a member of the Co-manager team

*allocations of hours are indicative of the average amount of time spent on these activities within an eight week period. These figures will fluctuate on a weekly basis; however, it is the expectation of the Board that during this time the total number of hours worked does not exceed 40 hours per fortnight without prior board approval. There is the option to increase these hours to 25 hours p/w with Board approval during busy periods.

Selection criteria
* Proven skills in self-directed planning, prioritising and driving tasks within a demanding and dynamic environment
* Demonstrated experience effectively coordinating volunteers
* Demonstrated experience of event development and management
* Experience in stakeholder engagement and leadership in a community organisation setting
* Demonstrated experience working in communications, including social media management
* Understanding of and commitment to the goals of the Food Co-op, cooperative structures, consensus decision-making and conflict resolution strategies
* Demonstrated experience applying strategic thinking for long term organisational success including capacity building
* Exceptional interpersonal skills including the capacity to hold space for multiple viewpoints and value people’s diverse contributions.
