Make a real difference through meaningful activity. Based in Toowoomba, this permanent part‐time role designs and delivers therapeutic recreation for people receiving inpatient mental health care—partnering with a supportive team to build skills, connection and confidence in recovery.


What your day could look like
As a Recreation Officer – Advanced, you'll play a critical role in supporting recovery for people accessing inpatient mental health services across our region. From shaping evidence‐informed programs to partnering with consumers and carers, you'll collaborate with allied health and nursing colleagues to create safe, engaging experiences that build skills, connection and hope.
Every Day, You'll Contribute By
* Designing and delivering individual and group recreation that builds confidence, daily living skills and social participation.
* Collaborating with consumers, families and the care team to tailor activities that are age‐appropriate, culturally responsive and goal-oriented.
* Evaluating outcomes, documenting progress and using insights to continuously improve programs and safety.
* Leading by example in safe practice—supervising sessions, managing resources and fostering a positive, therapeutic environment.

Here's What Will Help You Thrive In This Role
* A relevant qualification such as Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, Diversional Therapy or Community Services (or higher).
* Demonstrated skill in planning, running and evaluating recreation within mental health settings.
* Confident communication and teamwork—building respectful partnerships with consumers, carers and colleagues.
* Organised, proactive and safety‐minded, with strong observation, problem‐solving and documentation skills.
* Current C Class driver licence and ability to meet PPE, vaccination and manual handling requirements.

You'll stand out if you have experience in regional or inpatient mental health settings and/or additional training in diversional therapy, recovery‐oriented or trauma‐informed practice.
