Position Information
Birrong Girls High School is a vibrant, comprehensive and multicultural girls' secondary school established in 1957 and located in the south-western suburbs of Sydney. Ninety five per cent (95%) of the 722 students enrolled in the school are from Language Backgrounds Other than English (LBOTE), comprising a diverse range of cultural backgrounds which represent 40 language groups. The school's Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is 148. The school's motto, Ad Astra (To the stars), emphasises high expectations for teaching and learning and the school has maintained a consistent focus on overcoming disadvantage by improving learning outcomes for our students. The school values are the pursuit of Personal Excellence while being Respectful Citizens and Responsible Learners. Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with Autism, Behaviour Difficulties, Mild/Moderate Intellectual Disabilities and Emotional Disturbance
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively to build partnerships with colleagues, families, SLSO staff and external support agencies to enrich the culture of the wider community.
Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively, using evidence-based practice, to develop quality differentiated teaching and learning programs, resources and individualised learning plans, to maximise student growth and promote high expectations for all students.
Demonstrated successful classroom and individualised behaviour management with flexible and adaptive strategies that create a positive learning environment, promoting student wellbeing, authentic relationships, and success.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
