About the university

The University of Notre Dame Australia is a private Catholic University with over 1,000 permanent staff providing an exceptional educational experience to over 12,000 students across our Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses, as well as clinical schools in Victoria and New South Wales.

About the office

The University Library consists of six libraries networked across Australia. While the individual libraries are managed locally, they report nationally to the University Librarian. This position is located at the University’s Werribee site, which is collocated with the Mercy Hospital.

About the role

The Librarian plays a vital role in delivering high-quality library services to both University and Mercy Hospital communities. This position is responsible for providing expert support in library education, research services, and resource development. You will work collaboratively with academic staff to embed information literacy and research skills into the curriculum, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic goals. As a key liaison between the Library, University, and external stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of collections, lead innovative programs, and support faculty and students in achieving academic excellence. You will also initiate and manage projects that enhance library services and provide specialist advice to advance the Library’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and deliver Library education and research services, including learning and research programs and managing access to resources through vendor and stakeholder collaboration.
- Support staff and students with expert advice on finding and evaluating resources, advanced search techniques, scholarly communication, research data management, and research impact.
- Build strong relationships with Library colleagues and key stakeholders in faculties and departments to develop, deliver, evaluate and maintain programs and resources that support teaching, learning and research goals.
- Help manage Library collections and policies, including reviewing systems and reporting on usage and effectiveness.
- Lead and contribute to Library projects, participate in planning, working groups and committees, and mentor or guide team members when needed.
- Coordinate the fulfillment of the terms of the Mercy Health agreement and report on them, ensuring that the use and development of library services meet the terms and provide value to both institutions.
- Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate).

Qualifications, skills & experience

- A degree qualification with relevant experience, or a combination of extensive experience, education, or training in library or information services.
- Proven experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating library education and research programs.
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders in academic or research settings, including contributing to projects and committees.
- Good understanding of the requirements for information management throughout the research lifecycle, including scholarly communication, research data management, and research impact.
- Knowledge of relevant subject disciplines and experience in collection development, budget monitoring, and using advanced search strategies and engaging with new technologies.
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and thrive in a complex and changing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor others, liaise and negotiate at high levels, present professionally, collaborate and work effectively in teams or leadership roles.
