The Opportunity
Approach Consulting has partnered with one of Australia's best national firms to find a 5+ PQE Senior Associate.
You'll step into a national, award-winning insurance practice celebrated for its workplace culture. With a genuine team environment (ACT/NSW), accessible senior lawyers, interesting work across institutional abuse, Comcover, public liability and motor vehicle accident portfolios, we're proud to work with this firm as they choose to keep culture at the forefront. This opportunity could also suit a high-performing Associate looking to make the step up to Senior Associate.
About the Partner
The Canberra partner is a down-to-earth, commercially-savvy insurance and government lawyer who genuinely prioritises mentoring, team engagement and a culture of collaboration. They have first hand experience with the true nature of progression and development opportunities available at the firm.
Frequently described as one of the best people to work with, this partner values people who take the work seriously, not themselves.
Under guidance, you'll be part of a team that values open communication, mentorship and doing great work for insurer clients – within a culture of respect, fun and mutual support.
The Role
* Drafting clear, commercially-mindful advice to insurer clients
* Managing your own matter-load under guidance: running files through to resolution or court/tribunal, in collaboration with the Partner.
* Court and tribunal attendance, briefing counsel where appropriate
* Mentoring junior lawyers
* Meeting clear KPIs and practice standards: billing targets, file budget management, risk-review deadlines, timely client communications, and efficient file workflow.
* Proactive issue-spotting and being comfortable working at the interface of fact, medical evidence and legislation.
* Being a reliable, easy-to-get-along-with colleague: someone who contributes to a positive team culture, enjoys collaboration, and doesn't lose sight of the "people" side of practice.
What we're looking for
* 5+ PQE in insurance litigation or defence practice (public liability, motor vehicle/CTP, institutional abuse preferred but not strictly required). Litigation skills set ideal.
* Strong written skills—you can craft an advice or position paper that is both legally sharp and commercially sensible.
* Excellent organisational skills: you juggle files, meet deadlines, adhere to budget/KPIs and you keep clients and seniors informed.
* You are pragmatic, collegial and enthusiastic about being part of a team.
