Job Description
The Legal Office at Garvan Institute of Medical Research is seeking a Senior Lawyer to take a lead role in negotiating, reviewing and managing agreements relating to research activities and intellectual property. The successful candidate will ensure that all staff comply and keep up to date with relevant laws and policies, providing legal advice and support on corporate and commercial legal matters.
Key responsibilities include:
* Negotiating, preparing and managing agreements related to research collaborations, material transfer, data transfer, and services contracts.
* Reviewing funding and grant agreements with government and philanthropic funding bodies.
* Managing external contracting arrangements, monitoring activities post-contract and renegotiations.
* Providing advice to internal stakeholders on interpretation of contracts and ensuring compliance with laws and policies.
Key Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor of Laws and a current practicing certificate from the Law Society of NSW (or eligibility to immediately apply for such certification).
* At least 8 years PQE experience, preferably in a medical research institute environment.
* Demonstrated understanding of intellectual property law and corporate law and governance.
* Excellent commercial awareness, relationship building, influencing, and negotiating skills.
* Exceptional team player with ability to build rapport and maintain solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
