About the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute
The Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute is a not-for-profit organisation working to drive understanding, conservation and long-term resilience of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and other protected areas through supporting research, education, and collaborative partnerships. We drive impact through applied research, community and stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based advocacy for conservation and sustainability.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Marketing & Communications Manager to lead the delivery of communications that directly support the Institute's external communications, fundraising and revenue development goals. This includes engaging and growing our network of supporters—ranging from small and large donors to government agencies, philanthropic foundations, corporate sponsors, and event participants.
This part-time freelance role is ideal for a skilled communicator with a passion for conservation, a flair for storytelling, and a strong understanding of how marketing and digital engagement strategies convert into donor support, sponsorships, grant success, and sales.
You'll work closely with the CEO and our program leads to elevate the Institute's visibility and impact, align messaging with our fundraising strategy, and deliver compelling campaigns that activate supporters and attract investment in our mission.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a marketing, communications, or fundraising professional looking to make a real difference through purpose-driven work.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy that aligns with the Institute's fundraising, partnership, and supporter engagement goals.
* Deliver targeted campaigns that support revenue-generating activities including major donor engagement, government grant visibility, philanthropic outreach, ticketed event promotion, and sponsorship acquisition.
* Create and curate engaging content (blogs, social media, eDMs, multimedia, etc.) that tells the story of research, conservation work, and community impact.
* Lead digital communications across web and social platforms; maintain website content and supporter journeys.
* Work with internal teams to prepare compelling materials for donors, funders, and media—including pitch decks, case studies, newsletters, event collateral, and annual reporting.
* Monitor analytics to assess impact and produce quarterly insights to inform ongoing strategy.
* Respond to media and community inquiries, and manage proactive PR to elevate the Institute's profile.
Contract & Remuneration
* Time Commitment: part time.
* Remuneration: Day rate commensurate with experience and scope of contracted work, total contract value up to $40,000 p.a.
* Contract Duration: Up to 12 months.
* Location: Flexible / Hybrid (Blue Mountains or Sydney-based preferred, but not essential).
