**Position Objective**
Initiate a long-term, collaborative focus to deliver the Southern Downs Environmental Sustainability 
Strategy.
Develop partnerships with other government agencies, stakeholders and the community in the delivery of 
environmental and sustainability projects and practices across a broad range of services and operations.
Develop educational and awareness programmes and initiatives to engage with the community and build 
capacity to develop improved sustainability and environmental outcomes.
Assist with investigating and resolving customer requests that relate to sustainability and environment.
Actively support community volunteers and organisations to drive sustainable and environmental outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities**
The key responsibilities may be modified from time to time to ensure the expected outcomes support the 
Council's operational and corporate plans.
All duties are to be conducted in an efficient, timely, professional and safe manner. The key responsibilities 
include:
Use a variety of platforms to increase public awareness and generate ongoing community participation in 
sustainability and environmental initiatives.
Prepare and control the implementation of strategies associated with the Southern Downs Environmental 
Sustainability Strategy.
Develop and implement education and community awareness programs aimed at achieving a high level 
of community participation and acceptance of Council's sustainability and environmental initiatives.
Liaison with government agencies and peak representative bodies, the media and educational 
establishments in order to develop a platform for delivering sustainability and environmental initiatives
Promote sustainability and environmental activities and initiatives including but not limited to water 
conservation and recycling to the community through a variety of mediums including on-site verbal 
presentations, publications and web pages.
Monitor and report on community participation rates in Council's sustainability and environmental 
initiatives.
Investigate customer requests relating to sustainability and the environment.
Control and report individual project expenditure to ensure compliance with budget allocations and assist 
with the preparation of cost estimates for future projects or activities.
SOUTHERN DOWNS REGIONAL COUNCIL - Sustainability and Environmental Officer
Collate and report on the collection of data obtained through surveys and consultation.
Support the delivery of staff engagement programs to increase sustainability and environmental 
awareness and embed action within the organisation.
Develop new policies, processes, information sheets, and or procedures as required by and to support 
the Environmental Sustainability Strategy implementation.
Develop a reporting framework and capture data to demonstrate Council's commitment to sustainability
Other duties as directed by the supervisor.
**Training**
On the job training will be provided to ensure that the position holder maintains a satisfactory knowledge 
and skill base.
The position holder will be encouraged to attend workshops and seminars relevant to the position so 
as to ensure ongoing professional development.
**Work Health & Safety Responsibilities**
Comply with the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Council's Workplace 
Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
Comply with instructions given by the relevant manager and/or supervisor in respect of the health and 
safety of themselves and the health and safety of other persons.
**Organisational Responsibilities**
Comply with the requirements of Council policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
Ensure complete and accurate records are captured, created and maintained.
Deliver high quality customer service within the organisation and to the public.
Ensure the security and appropriate intended use of Council information at all times.
**Extent of Authority**
The supervisor monitors agreed work outcomes.
This role is free to act within legislative and policy guidelines, though advice on complex or unusual 
matters is available from the supervisor.
**Selection Criteria**
**Qualifications/ Licences - Mandatory**
Current open "C" class licence (Car).
Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
**Qualifications/ Licences - Desirable**
Relevant qualification of at least certificate level.
