Primary objective
Undertake a range of geoscience projects to build knowledge of the geology and resource potential of the Northern
Territory.
Context statement
The purpose of the Northern Territory Geological Survey is to attract, de-risk and support investment in resource exploration
and development in the Territory and provide geoscience-based advice to government and the community. The Project
Geoscientist role will contribute their technical expertise in a range of programs that can include geological framework,
mineral and/or energy systems, and geophysical and/or remote sensing studies. The role will deliver geophysical and remote
sensing expertise to improve understanding of the regional geological framework and resource potential of the Northern
Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute expertise in geophysical and remote sensing to improving understanding of the geological framework and
resource potential of the Northern Territory
2. Maintain currency of knowledge and awareness of modern and emerging geoscientific concepts and technologies
3. Undertake administrative duties including assisting contract management, procurement and reporting.
4. Communicate effectively to a broad audience across a variety of channels
1. Build and support strong working relationships and be an effective team member
2. Contribute to the acquisition, processing and dissemination of geoscientific data, adhering to data governance standards
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Honours or higher degree in geoscience or a related discipline from a recognised university
2. Demonstrated experience in undertaking regional-scale, multidisciplinary geological framework and/or mineral and/or
energy systems and/or geophysical and remote sensing studies
3. Demonstrated experience in the acquisition, QA/QC, processing of geoscientific data and integration in a GIS
environment
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to a technical and non-technical audience and a demonstrated ability
to write and review evidence-based scientific reports
5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to effective team outcomes and the timely delivery of project outputs
Desirable
1. Demonstrated ability to perform geological fieldwork effectively in remote areas and contribute to the development of,
and adherence to, safety procedures
2. Knowledge of the geology and mineral/petroleum resources of the Northern Territory
