Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact
As an Underground Crusher & Conveyors Mechanical Advisor, you will play a critical role in preparing Newmont’s Tanami Expansion 2 (TE2) project for safe and efficient operations. Reporting to the Business Readiness Superintendent, you’ll provide expert mechanical advice on crushing and conveyor systems—supporting design, installation, commissioning, spares identification, and transition from construction to operations.
As part of our team, you will
- Provide specialist advice on mechanical equipment for underground crushers, conveyors, and materials handling systems.
- Support design reviews, installation verification, commissioning, and risk analysis.
- Develop and maintain maintenance strategies, isolation and operational procedures, and SAP Bills of Materials.
- Identify and catalogue spares, tooling, and classified plant in partnership with Supply Chain.
- Assist in the development of work instructions, task procedures, and training packages.
- Provide technical support during construction, equipment handover, and early operational phases.
- Ensure compliance with Newmont’s global asset management standards and health & safety requirements.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Significant mining industry experience, with strong mechanical knowledge of crushers, conveyors, shaft/winder systems, and related infrastructure.
- Mechanical trade qualification or relevant tertiary degree.
- Experience in commissioning, maintenance planning, and operational readiness.
- Familiarity with CMMS (SAP preferred), MS Office, MS Project, and document management systems.
- Solid stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability in a fast-changing project environment
- Australian manual drivers licence
- Clean shaven
Your Work Environment
This is a site-based role at Tanami Operations in the Northern Territory, working in a challenging but rewarding remote environment. Some travel to Perth and other Newmont sites may be required to engage stakeholders and support construction and commissioning activities. The role involves a FIFO schedule of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, which may involve working night shifts. Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.
