An exciting opportunity exists as a Koorie Education Children's Court Liaison Officer (KECCLO) (Senior Community Services Advisor) to provide education advice and support for Koorie children and young people aged 10‐17 who are entering the Criminal Division of the Children's Courts and Koorie Children's Courts across Victoria. The KECCLO works in collaboration with key support services to re‐connect the child/young person with their existing or new school or education/training setting.
The position is based in the Department of Education's South West Victoria Region – Geelong or Warrnambool Office, with travel required to Children's Courts locations in Geelong, Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton and Colac.
The KECCLO may also be required to travel to other Children's Court and Koorie Children's Court locations in the region to provide referral assistance and facilitate access to appropriate education options for Koorie young people on community‐based youth justice orders.
Responsibilities
Provide education advice and support to Koorie children and young people aged 10‐17 who are coming into the Criminal Division of the Children's Courts and Koorie Children's Courts; collaborate with the Department of Education Area and Regional Teams, schools and other government agencies; travel to Children's Courts to offer referral assistance; facilitate access to education options for young people on community‐based youth justice orders; and maintain partnerships with key support services to re‐connect individuals with appropriate schools or training settings.
Qualifications
* Extensive understanding of Koorie culture, education and community needs.
* Ability to work collaboratively to guide others to create a culture of collaboration and identify & overcome barriers through sharing knowledge and information.
* Experience supporting schools and/or Koorie young people "at‐risk" or engaging with the criminal justice system (desirable).
* Proven ability to effectively build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels through effective communication and exceptional consulting abilities.
* Effective problem‐solving capability to resolve or escalate operational service queries.
* Track record in identifying opportunities to work with other teams to deliver outcomes.
* Expertise to build and maintain trust in partnerships, achieving objectives through timely delivery of high‐quality outcomes.
* Expertise to facilitate discussions and navigate differences of opinion to reach decisions.
* Provides a sense of purpose within the team by establishing links between work and impact on the community.
