Telephone voting operator/supervisor

The Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) is seeking motivated and professional individuals to support the delivery of the 2026 South Australian State Election. We are currently recruiting for temporary Telephone Voting Centre roles that play a vital part in supporting electors to participate in the democratic process.

Available Roles

1. Telephone Assisted Voting Centre Operator

Operators assist electors to register and vote using the Telephone Assisted Voting service. This includes providing electoral information, guiding electors through the voting process, and accurately recording registrations and voting preferences in accordance with established procedures. Operators may work individually or as part of a two-person voting team.

1. Telephone Assisted Voting Centre Supervisor

The Supervisor manages the daily operations of the Telephone Assisted Voting Centre and provides leadership to Operators. The role includes supervising staff, managing election materials, handling escalated enquiries, and ensuring compliance with all electoral procedures and reconciliation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Operators

* Provide accurate electoral information and instructions to electors via telephone
* Deliver high quality customer service, including supporting electors from vulnerable or diverse communities
* Accurately record elector registrations and voting preferences
* Complete reconciliation and administrative documentation during each shift
* Follow all operational procedures and maintain strict confidentiality
* Assist Supervisors with administrative tasks as required

Supervisor

* Provide high-level electoral information via phone and email
* Manage escalated enquiries and complex customer matters
* Supervise and support Telephone Voting Centre Operators
* Monitor call volumes and assist with workforce rostering
* Manage, secure and reconcile election materials and ballot papers
* Oversee daily and final reconciliation and secure return of election materials
* Ensure staff follow all procedures and workplace safety requirements

Essential Requirements

Operators

* Availability to work rostered shifts, including outside standard business hours
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Previous call centre or telephone-based customer service experience is highly desirable
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
* High attention to detail and commitment to procedural accuracy
* Experience supporting vulnerable electors, including people with disability or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
* Commitment to maintaining political neutrality and confidentiality

Supervisor

* Experience supervising staff in a call centre or similar operational environment
* Experience working with vulnerable customers
* Previous election workforce experience highly desirable
* Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving skills
* High attention to detail and strong reconciliation and administrative capability
* Commitment to confidentiality, integrity and political neutrality
* Availability to work flexible rostered shifts

Employment Details

* It is important that you have no political affiliations to be considered for this role
* Training: In-person training during March 2026
* Employment Period: Approximately 1 March 2026 through to 31 March 2026
* Shifts: Approximately 6.5 hours per shift on a rostered basis
* A National Police Clearance valid within 3 months is required to be considered for a Supervisory position
