Job description Purpose of Role
Environment Tasmania has created a role for an experienced individual with a strong communications background to manage and sharpen the organisation's storytelling, as well as to grow the organisation's reach, in order to raise the profile of Tasmania's majestic environment and the threats it faces.
Tasmania is on the cusp of a once-in-a-generation law change that could see the state's coastal waters better managed for current and future generations. This position would work closely with the organisation's Senior Marine Campaigner and play an important role in designing and distributing key communication materials relating to Tasmania's precious marine ecosystems, species and the communities that depend on them for their livelihoods.
This role will strengthen and amplify Environment Tasmania's voice to ensure it cuts through the busy media landscape and reaches key audiences. This role will also build the organisation's unique brand/image and be responsible for managing the processes, strategies and structures that underpin the organisation's outward communications.

Environment Tasmania is working on the most important issues threatening Tasmania's unique natural environment and is increasingly providing a local voice at the national level on behalf of many Tasmanian environment groups.
Primary Tasks
* To provide communications support for our Senior Marine Campaigner
* Design and deliver a strong communications plan that can support our Marine Campaign and its strategic objectives
* Design and support in the delivery of public events attached to the Marine Campaign
* Manage the organisation's communications and gradually build procedures that will elevate and streamline the organisation's media engagement and storytelling
* Build relationships with traditional media outlets, grow the organisation's media contact list and support staff to secure maximum media coverage.
* As well as any other relevant duties as required by Environment Tasmania
Selection Criteria
Essential:
* Experience of working in a communications role or another similar role
* Strong communication and digital media skills and a proven ability to produce high quality publications
* Demonstrated knowledge, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge, of nature conservation and the threats facing Tasmania's environment
* Experience of working with social media and utilising relevant AI tools
* Strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills with the proven ability to demonstrate sound judgement, develop innovative solutions and understand the political, social and environmental context in which Environment Tasmania operates.
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and be an effective member of a small team.
Desirable:
* At least four years working in communications-type roles.
* A track record of working with traditional media.
* A tertiary qualification in communications / marketing or environmental science
* Experience in using NationBuilder or a similar CRM database
Level of Responsibility and Supervision
Under broad direction from the CEO and ET's Board, the Communications Manager is expected to work autonomously within a small team and work particularly closely with the Senior Marine Campaigner to deliver key communications for the Marine Campaign.
Employment Terms
* Fixed term for 12 months, 3 days per week (potential for increase)
* A probation period of one month from commencement date
* Hourly rate: $40 - 45 (depending on experience)
