Role Purpose

As corporate counsel you will be responsible for the provision of legal services (primarily in the commercial, contractual, corporate governance and financial services areas) across the Capricorn group. While your work will be directed by the Chief Legal and Governance Officer and the Group Corporate Counsel, you will have a high degree of autonomy in managing matters, including engagement with members of Capricorn’s executive and senior leadership team.

Skills, Knowledge & Attributes

- General commercial law experience including preparation and review of a wide range of documents and negotiating the same
- Ability to provide tactical legal advice and support.
- Ability to provide legal risk analysis and advice on risk minimisation.
- Understanding of Australian contract law essential.
- Understanding of Australian financial services law and associated regulatory guides desirable but not mandatory.
- Time management skills and managing competing priorities is a key requirement of the role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in privacy law desirable but not mandatory.
- Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams.
- Join the Legal team in a rare permanent part time position.
- Report directly to the Chief Legal and Governance Officer.
- The Legal team is a collaborative and supportive team playing a vital role in shaping and influencing business processes, decisions and projects.
- Advise on a range of areas of law.
- Assist with corporate governance considerations across Capricorn Group.
- Have direct responsibility for outcomes within the Legal team and for the business.

Experience

- Minimum three years post admission experience in a private practice law firm or large corporate in‑house legal team.

Qualifications

- LLB or equivalent qualification.
- Holds or is eligible to hold a current Western Australian Legal Practising Certificate.
- Admitted to the supreme court of Western Australia or another supreme court of a state/territory in Australia.
