The Bureau's Data and Digital group (DDG) is responsible for the ICT systems the Bureau relies on to provide trusted, reliable and responsive weather, water, climate, ocean and space weather services for Australia - all day, every day. The Infrastructure Services Section within the SIM Program seeks a Midrange Infrastructure Manager to lead a team and take accountability for the Bureau's ICT infrastructure, including hardware, storage and backup systems.
The team is well established with long-standing responsibilities for the lifecycle management of virtual machine clusters, hardware server clusters, backup systems including tape libraries, large scale storage systems and similar ICT infrastructure. This includes ongoing patching and capacity management, fulfilling moves/adds/changes and related service requests, and consultation with designers, architects and project teams.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
* Bring with you and contribute relevant experience and expertise in hands‐on lifecycle management of ICT Infrastructure systems, especially with enterprise grade storage, backup and server hardware.
* Have experience with controlled, multi‐location data‐centre facilities supporting 24x7 mission‐critical services and be willing to work in data‐centre conditions.
* Be capable of limited manual handling and lifting of heavy equipment under controlled conditions, and be willing to participate in a 24x7 on‐call duty rotation.
* Recognise the potential for skill and talent in staff, and have the ability to recruit, coach and enable staff and manage underperformance.
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
