Waratah-Wynyard Council have an exciting opportunity available for a Mechanic to support our growing municipality.
About the Role
Do you have at least two years' experience in the mechanical field, or are you currently a 4th year apprentice? As a valued member of our team, you will play a key role in keeping Council's fleet, plant and equipment in top condition—ensuring everything is safe, reliable and ready for action.
In this role, your work will be varied and engaging, covering routine servicing, scheduled maintenance, urgent repairs and unexpected breakdowns. You will apply your technical skills and proven practices to complete tasks efficiently and safely, while also contributing ideas to help improve the way we work.
This is a permanent full-time position working 76 hours over a 9-day fortnight.
Key Duties:
* Conduct inspections, servicing, and repairs of Council vehicles, plant, and equipment.
* Ensure plant items are operationally safe and maintained to a high standard.
* Respond to breakdowns and ad-hoc repair needs in a timely manner.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and adhere to safety procedures.
* Operate machinery and equipment as required and within licence conditions.
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Relevant qualifications and/or experience in the mechanical field.
* Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining small plant and equipment.
* The ability to work effectively in a team, share workloads, and support colleagues.
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
