Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for leading financial reporting, compliance, and analysis functions, while supporting the wider finance team and executive leadership.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Financial Accountant to join our team on a maternity leave cover contract. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for leading financial reporting, compliance, and analysis functions, while supporting the wider finance team and executive leadership.
This is a hands-on position ideal for a detail-oriented and strategic finance professional who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with AASB and IFRS standards.
* Deliver end-of-month management reports, including journals, prepayments, accruals, payroll entries, and investment transactions.
* Maintain the general ledger and fixed asset register, including depreciation and disposals.
* Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax, Superannuation, and other regulatory requirements.
* Support the CFO with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
* Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
* Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and insurance brokers.
* Provide backup support for payroll and assist with accounts payable and intercompany transactions.
* Deliver high-quality financial advice to internal stakeholders and maintain strong external relationships.
* Mentor finance team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
* Maintain accurate financial records.
About You
You are a proactive and analytical finance professional with a strong foundation in financial reporting and compliance. You enjoy working across teams and are confident in providing financial insights that support organisational goals.
Essential Criteria:
* Degree-qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* 5–10 years’ experience in a senior accounting or financial management role.
* Strong knowledge of AASB/IFRS, tax compliance, and audit processes.
* Proficiency in MYOB, Xero, or similar ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly.
* Demonstrated experience in mentoring or supervising finance staff.
Desirable:
* Experience in the education, training, or not-for-profit sectors.
* Familiarity with payroll processes and employment-related compliance.
* Understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. ATO, SRO, FBT, WorkCover).
* Experience with Financial System implementation
* CPA/CA Qualifications (or working towards) { non essential}
