About the Office of Children's Guardian

The Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG) upholds NSW children and young people's right to be safe by overseeing, regulating and monitoring organisations and individuals that provide services to children. We are guided by our values of integrity, trust, service, accountability, respect and empathy.

About the directorate

Statutory out-of-home care is when the Children's Court has made an order allocating parental responsibility for a child or young person to the Minister for Community Services. The order requires the child or young person to live with a person who is not their parent in a place which is not their parental home, such as foster or residential care. We provide oversight of children in statutory out-of-home care through our accreditation program which includes compliance with OOHC registers and assesses organisations against the NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care.

About the role

The role participates in the implementation of systems, policies, procedures and processes for accrediting out of home care and adoption agencies and for monitoring voluntary out-of-home care and the Carers and Residential Care Workers Registers. It contributes to the development and continuous improvement of the Accreditation and Registration systems and processes so that they are effective and efficient.

We are seeking a motivated and resilient person to:

* Manage complex and sensitive matters with competing and shifting priorities in a high-volume environment where confidentiality and discretion are key.
* Develop and maintain effective and trusting relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
* Monitor agency compliance and performance against legislative and agreed frameworks through desktop assessment and onsite visits.

Key knowledge and experience

* Excellent verbal and written communication, project planning and management, organisational and negotiation skills.
* Proven ability to build trust, influence and communicate effectively at both a strategic and operational level, applying a commercial and customer mindset, and creatively problem solving.

Essential Requirements

* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent knowledge and workplace experience including ongoing professional development.
* Employment at the Office of the Children's Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.
* All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current NSW Working with Children Check.

For further information about the role, please view the role description.

Our commitment to Diversity

We welcome and encourage applications from people across our diverse community, especially from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. We believe everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, valued and heard regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.

The OCG encourages applications from people with disability and will provide reasonable adjustments in our recruitment processes and in the workplace.

If you require an adjustment in the recruitment process, please contact the OCG People and Culture team on (02) 8219 3661 or and advise of your preferred method of communication.

When applying you will need to attach a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) which also addresses the two targeted questions below and an up-to-date resume (maximum 4 pages) in either Word or PDF format.

We are looking for you to demonstrate your competence in the focus capabilities as outlined in the role description, so please develop your response with this in mind.
