About the role

As Regulatory Change & Compliance Lead you'll play a pivotal role in steering the Consumer business through the ever-evolving landscape of regulatory and compliance changes. This dynamic position involves not only overseeing the identification, assessment, planning, and implementation of these changes but also proactively monitoring developments in the energy and telecommunications sectors.

By interpreting their impact on the business, this role guides cross-functional teams to implement practical and compliant solutions. Moreover, the Regulatory Change & Compliance Lead ensures that business goals are in harmony with regulatory strategies, all while fostering a culture of regulatory awareness across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact and drive the business forward in a compliant and strategic manner.

Please note this is a 24-month maximum term contract and is based out of our Melbourne offices.

What you'll be doing day-to-day

Regulatory Monitoring and Strategic Analysis

* Stay informed about new and changing legislation, government policy positions, and industry trends in both the energy sectors.
* Provide early intelligence and insights on proposed changes to influence internal planning.
* Work closely with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure business and advocacy positions align.
* Impact Assessment & Translation
* Conduct end-to-end assessments of regulatory impacts including risks, opportunities, and process or system changes required.
* Translate regulatory obligations into actionable operational and procedural guidance tailored for different business units.
* Develop high-quality reports and visual presentations for senior stakeholders to support decision-making.

Stakeholder & Industry Engagement

* Represent the Consumer business at external regulatory or industry forums and working groups.
* Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies and industry associations to anticipate developments.
* Collaborate with Consumer business teams (e.g., billing, product, sales, collections, etc.) and group functions (e.g., Legal, Risk, Regulatory Affairs) to ensure shared understanding and buy-in.

Technology & Business Readiness

* Partner with IT and project squads to embed compliance into system design and delivery (e.g., Gentrack, 1P).
* Ensure that technology enhancements meet regulatory requirements and business expectations.
* Support training and communications initiatives to ensure all impacted employees are informed and equipped.

Change Management and Delivery

* Perform change impact assessments (people, process, systems), identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate on sequencing and prioritisation of the regulatory pipeline.
* Lead or support change implementation including communication, training, and ongoing monitoring of adoption.

Training, Awareness & Capability Uplift

* Champion awareness of regulatory responsibilities across the business.
* Provide subject matter expertise to address staff questions, and coordinate training programs where needed.
* Regularly update compliance documentation and internal procedures to reflect new requirements.
* Identify and implement opportunities to improve how the organisation manages regulatory change.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of the regulatory change roadmap and governance framework.

What you'll bring to this role

5+ years' experience in regulatory change, compliance, legal, or risk within the energy industry.

Strong understanding of Australian energy regulations and regulatory bodies (e.g. AER, ESC, ACCC, etc.).

Demonstrated experience leading change in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Excellent analytical skills, with ability to assess regulatory impact and prioritise compliance actions.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to senior executives.

Proven experience influencing business leaders and managing competing priorities.

Familiarity with compliance frameworks, risk management processes, and control design.
