Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Professional to lead our multidisciplinary mental health intake team in delivering exceptional services.

Your role will involve providing clinical oversight, coordination, supervision, and positive leadership to ensure seamless collaboration within the team.

headspace Maitland is a full-service headspace centre providing the four core streams of Mental Health, Physical and Sexual Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Vocational and Educational supports to young people aged 12‑25 years in the community. headspace Cessnock is a satellite service providing Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Vocational Education support three days a week.

This role is located at headspace Maitland and headspace Cessnock sites to ensure coverage required on both sites including the satellite site at Cessnock a minimum of two days per fortnight.


Role & Responsibilities

* Take a lead role in supporting headspace staff, headspace General Practitioner, private providers, and collocated service providers to respond to clients presenting to headspace Maitland or Cessnock in crisis or at risk of harm.
* Assess young people in accordance with designated headspace biopsychosocial tools.
* Assist the Centre Manager to monitor the effectiveness of the Intake systems and referral pathways for young people who access headspace and identify gaps in these systems for improvement.
* Assist with recruitment and training of clinical staff.
* Coordinate Intake team staff rosters and duty allocations.
* Monitor wait times and identify alternate strategies to manage and/or assist clients engagement in therapeutic interventions.
* Oversee any outreach services provided by headspace and identify service improvement strategies.
* Promote and adhere to a young person‑centred approach working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team for the engagement assessment, treatment and social and vocational rehabilitation of young people accessing headspace.
* Deliver culturally safe and respectful services.
* Promote and adhere to youth friendly practice principles that effectively manage risk.
* Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders and referral networks.


About you

* Tertiary degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or similar, as well as substantial work experience in child and adolescent mental health settings.
* Maintain membership of relevant professional association.
* Demonstrated evidence based clinical skills in assessment and working with young people and their families/carers in a mental health and/or drug and alcohol setting.
* Understanding of the needs of young people with a mental illness including engagement with the mental health service system.
* Ability to advocate for improved accessibility for young people across a number of service systems.
* Effective leadership and multi‑disciplinary teamwork in relation to the management of risk within a youth mental health setting.
* Ability to develop, manage and monitor performance outcomes for programs and activities.
* Provide formal and informal clinical supervision to staff that incorporates self‑reflection and development.
* Highly developed interpersonal, public relations and communication skills including sound oral and writing skills.
* Understanding of and commitment to Child Protection legislation and OH&S principles.
* Current unrestricted Drivers Licence, WWCC, current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain) and COVID vaccination evidence.

Employment Details

Employment Type: Full‑Time.

Salary: $53.05 per hour, paid on the Health Professionals and Support Services Award Level 4.1.

Location: Maitland and Cessnock sites, with minimum coverage at Cessnock two days per fortnight.
