What is Orientation and Mobility?
Orientation and mobility is the process of developing skills to navigate and interact with one's environment. It involves teaching individuals with visual impairments how to move safely and independently through various environments, including indoors, outdoors, and in public spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify individual needs and goals
* Develop personalized programs to improve mobility and independence
* Train clients in orientation and mobility techniques across various environments
* Monitor and evaluate client progress, making adjustments as needed
* Maintain accurate records and reports of client interactions and progress
Requirements:
* Tertiary qualification in orientation & mobility, and current completion of certified orientation and mobility specialist (COMS)
* Ability to travel regularly by car and domestic flight for overnight stays
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Current unrestricted drivers' licence and good driving record
