Role

Kingsford Legal Centre (KLC) is a community legal centre providing free legal advice and assistance to our local community and to people across NSW. Our team of Solicitors/Clinical Supervisors provide advice on matters such as Domestic Violence, Credit and Debt, Victim's Compensation, Housing, Criminal Law, Employment Law, Discrimination Law, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Consumer Matters and Neighbourhood Disputes.

The Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor (Law Reform) plays a key role in coordinating and delivering the Centre's law reform and policy work, with a strong focus on translating frontline legal service delivery into systemic impact. The position undertakes collaborative law reform, contributes to policy development, and provides legal advice and casework to disadvantaged clients.

The position will also supervise advice nights and attend community outreaches and work into KLC's generalist practice. The position works closely with UNSW Law & Justice students teaching them in a best practice clinical legal education model.

This position is based from KLC located within UNSW Kensington Campus. The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

* Coordinating and undertaking law reform and policy work, including developing strategic law reform priorities and writing submissions
* Identifying and progressing proactive law reform strategies addressing systemic legal issues affecting the Centre's client communities
* Providing legal advice and conducting casework in accordance with Centre policies and guidelines
* Supervising student participation in advice and casework, assessing students, and developing law reform projects
* Supervising advice nights and participating in community outreach programs, including our Health Justice Partnership
* Communicating law reform issues effectively to diverse audiences, including community stakeholders and sector partners
* Contributing to the Centre's social and digital media presence and external communications
* Assisting with the general operations of the Centre and providing supervision to staff (Level 7)
* Actively demonstrating UNSW's values and commitment to health, safety and wellbeing

Qualifications

* Eligibility to practice as a solicitor in New South Wales
* Experience providing legal advice and casework, ideally in a community legal centre or legal assistance context
* Demonstrated experience in policy and law reform work relevant to the Centre's practice areas
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English
* Experience supervising students, junior staff or volunteers in a trauma‐informed environment
* A strong commitment to social justice and the legal assistance sector

Level 7 Specifics

* Extensive experience in complex casework and systemic law reform initiatives
* Experience leading or coordinating sector‐wide law reform campaigns and stakeholder engagement
* High‐level supervision experience and the ability to mentor legal staff
* A strong professional reputation and capacity to represent the Centre with senior stakeholders
