And now’s the time.Your opportunityWe are looking for a dynamic VTS Operator to join the Newcastle based Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) team on a permanent part-time basis (flexible roster) working on an average of 19 hours per week.The VTS operates 24 hours a day seven (7) days a week, providing all mariners and port stakeholders with a quality Vessel Traffic Service.VTS promotes improved safety and efficiency of vessel traffic, protecting marine environments and port infrastructure by providing a continuous monitoring service to all participating vessels.This role is based in Newcastle and here’s how your impact will truly count:Coordinate the movement of all vessels in the port area and maintain high situational awareness for the safe movement of vessels within the VTS coverage area.Operate VTS equipment such as electronic chart system, RADAR, AIS, CCTV, telecommunication, and VHF that enable monitoring and management of traffic.Participate in emergency response within and outside the port including mooring failures, loss of propulsion, oil and chemical spills, firefighting, and search and rescue.Maintain compliance with and follow operating procedures within the VTS.Operate Port Management System to ensure data is kept up to date within the system.Coordinating interface between Port Authority and allied services and other port servicesPerform administration duties such as logging and reporting shift activities and data entry.Support the continuous improvement of VTS through active participation in the review of VTS procedures.What you’ll bringHold a valid or ability to obtain C0103/1 (V103/1) VTS Operators certificate.Hold a valid or ability to obtain Marine Radio Operators LicenceMaritime qualification (desirable)Experience using Harbour Management Systems software(desirable)Experience in VTS systems and port operations (desirable)Good, effective written and oral communication, time management and organisational skillsDemonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a small team.Ability to remain professional and calm in high workload and port emergency situations.Willing adopter of new technologies and methodologies with the ability to learn new computer-based systems.What matters most is that you’re a collaborative team player, who brings true expertise to our trusted team.
