Primary objective
Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) by
effectively undertaking a wide range of administrative duties and activities; work collaboratively in a small team to assist
with the editorial and publication functions of the OPC by ensuring the effective and efficient performance of document
quality assurance and publishing activities.
Context statement
The OPC drafts legislation for the Government and Members of the Legislative Assembly in relation to matters within the
legislative and executive powers of the Northern Territory and publishes legislation and the Government Gazette.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Providing executive administrative assistance to the Chief Parliamentary Counsel and other senior drafters and
undertaking a wide range of administrative duties and activities to ensure the efficient operation of the OPC.
2. Ensuring that documents meet quality standards and are delivered in accordance with timelines to meet Government
priorities.
3. Assisting with the publication of legislation and the Government Gazette.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed skills and experience in producing high quality information and data in electronic form, with high level
attention to accuracy and detail.
2. Highly developed working knowledge of administrative procedures within Government or within a legal related
workplace.
3. Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft applications, at an intermediate level.
4. Demonstrated high level English (written and oral) communication skills.
5. High level organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a small team and with limited supervision.
6. Ability to work under pressure while achieving quality outcomes, including exercising initiative and prioritising activities.
7. Working knowledge of government corporate systems, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply such knowledge.
Desirable
1. Experience in working with legislation or publishing.
