We are working with a global leader in trading and technology, renowned for their innovative approach and cutting-edge technology, as they look to welcome a Legal Counsel, with between 2 and 5 PQE, to their legal team of 7.
The successful candidate will work closely business units in Australia and internationally. This role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of legal work, including corporate and commercial law, employment, financial markets, technology, intellectual property, regulatory, privacy & data, and company secretarial support. You do not need to have experience in all of these areas but instead have a can-do attitude and strong legal common sense.
The successful candidate will report to a highly regarded General Counsel and play a key role in delivering legal guidance and driving internal projects.
Your Core Responsibilities:
* Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including those related to technology, trading, employment, and other business initiatives.
* Evaluate and enhance existing company policies and procedures, drafting new policies as needed to support continuous improvement.
* Conduct research and provide strategic advice on emerging legal issues, such as intellectual property, data protection, technology, and employment law.
* Support corporate governance activities, including preparing materials for board meetings of the organisation's corporate and charitable entities.
* Identify and assess contractual risks, offering innovative and legally robust solutions to mitigate challenges and resolve disputes with business partners.
Your Skills and Experience:
* Tertiary qualifications in Law and admission as a solicitor in a common law jurisdiction are essential, with strong academic credentials.
* Experience in a law firm, particularly with clients in financial services or technology sectors, is highly desirable.
* Ability to work autonomously under tight deadlines, with excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Strong business acumen and decision-making skills, with the ability to provide advice that balances legal and commercial objectives.
* Exceptional research and writing skills, with a proven ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
