About the Business Unit
1. Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) that operates Victoria's adult prison system and is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Corrections Victoria's vision is 'Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. 2. Custodial Operations is responsible for:
* Operating the public prisons and managing prison system-wide issues and delivering system-wide support services.
* Operational oversight of private prison management.
* Delivery of safe and humane corrections, maintaining safety and security, while responding to the individual rehabilitative needs of each individual.
About the Role
3. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the General Manager, Strategic Projects leads and manages the newly established Strategic Projects team, focused on implementing a range of projects in operational environments, preparing our people for change and ensuring successful outcomes in the Victorian custodial system. This role will be responsible for leading a team with diverse functions - special projects, digital operations and rostering operations across the custodial system.
4. The General Manager, Strategic Projects will respond to emerging strategic issues, providing direction, knowledge and innovative solutions to support the implementation of operational changes and reforms. This role will be responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence and teamwork.
5. The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires strong leadership, communication, influence skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment through expertise and knowledge regarding the custodial environment.
6. As the General Manager, Strategic Projects, some of your duties will include:
* Developing, implementing and managing all aspects of the operational and strategic activities relating to strategic reforms, including stakeholder management, project planning and management of risk.
* Providing high quality, authoritative and strategic advice to, and on behalf of, the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations, on complex and sensitive issues where the purpose is to influence change and process improvement within the custodial system.
* Identifying emerging issues and developing creative, innovative and practical solutions and recommendation to ensure effective project delivery.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Significant experience in the development and introduction of reform projects in complex workplaces, where there are stakeholders with varying requirements.
* Experience in the management or monitoring of significant or complex projects, programs or policy initiatives.
* Specialist knowledge of the custodial operational environment including, but not limited to, legislative and compliance obligations, safety, industrial requirements, structured day, and case management would be an advantage.
