Finance Officer – Accounts Payable | Local Government
The Opportunity
A Local Government organisation is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Officer – Accounts Payable to support the efficient delivery of financial operations.
This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, payments, and financial transactions while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Based in Cairns, you will also have the opportunity to travel to the community periodically, contributing to a broader understanding of Council operations and service delivery.

* $70,000 base salary + superannuation

* Monday to Friday – 36.25 hours per week
* Standard hours: 8:00am – 4:15pm (1-hour lunch break)

About the Role
You will support the finance team by ensuring all accounts payable processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
* Processing supplier invoices, credit notes and payment requests
* Conducting weekly and monthly payment runs
* Maintaining creditor records and ensuring compliance
* Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
* Processing staff reimbursements and corporate card transactions
* Supporting month-end processes including accruals and reconciliations
* Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting audit requirements
* Assisting across broader finance functions when required
* Providing high-level customer service to suppliers and internal stakeholders
About You
You are a reliable and detail-focused finance professional with strong accounts payable experience and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
Qualifications
* Certificate III in Bookkeeping, Accounting or similar
* Minimum 3 years' experience in accounts payable or finance administration
* High attention to detail and strong numeracy skills
* Experience using financial systems and Microsoft Office
* Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Understanding of confidentiality and financial compliance
Desirable
* Local Government finance experience
* Experience with Synergy or similar accounting systems
* Current Driver's Licence
