Your new role
The Project Cost Controller is responsible for delivering end-to-end project cost control, financial performance analysis, and integrated project systems support across the capital portfolio.
* Act as a subject matter expert in capital project cost control across the organisation
* Develop, implement, and maintain cost control processes covering budgets, forecasts, commitments, accruals, cash flow, contingency, and management reserve
* Prepare and manage detailed project budgets and forecasts aligned with business objectives
* Perform cost performance analysis including variance analysis, trends, ETC and EAC forecasting
* Assess financial impacts of scope, schedule, and change events and advise on mitigation actions
* Maintain complete, accurate, and auditable cost data throughout the project lifecycle
* Support integration between cost, schedule, and progress measurement to enable earned value insights
* Support project planning and monthly project review processes
* Coordinate configuration, use, and continuous improvement of project control systems (e.g. OnePlan, SAP, scheduling and reporting tools)
* Support system integration between project delivery, finance, and portfolio management platforms
* Embed project phase gates, cost breakdown structures, and process requirements into systems
* Prepare reconciliation dashboards and reports (forecast vs actual, portfolio views)
* Support data quality, governance, and auditability across project controls datasets
What you'll need to succeed
* Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Information Systems, Project Management, or a related discipline
* Professional certifications (e.g. CPA, CMA, cost engineering, project controls, or systems certifications) desirable
* Significant experience in project cost control, cost engineering, or commercial project controls within capital projects
* Strong understanding of project lifecycle cost management and portfolio reporting
* Experience working with project controls systems (e.g. SAP, OnePlan, Primavera, MS Project, Project Online)
* Advanced Excel capability; experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools advantageous
* Understanding of data governance, reconciliation, and audit requirements
* Exposure to workflow automation, system integration, or AI-enabled analytics desirable
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modelling capability
