About the Role
GEMS software monitors, controls, and optimises energy assets at both site and portfolio levels and operates autonomously to support large-scale energy storage projects. As the GEMS Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible to oversee and execute the commissioning of utility‐scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) instrumentation. With a number of projects underway, you will be required to travel regularly to site across both NSW and Victoria so your commitment to be mobile and flexible is essential for this role. You will be establishing field communication with devices and troubleshooting, so a solid understanding and experience of PLC, SCADA, automation, networking, programming and fundamental electrical engineering is needed.
You will work with many internal resources on each project including the PM, Integrated Applications team and other key contacts to ensure the successful commissioning in each project. Whilst at site you will report through to the Commissioning Manager.
Your main responsibilities are:
* You will commission and deploy software & control technologies on the GEMS SW platform according to solution standards and project requirements that solve electrical power and energy problems.
* Review and assess electrical engineering documents.
* Produce technical documents and solutions to support project requirements.
* Build relationships and ensure strong communication lines occur at site with electrical, solutions and software engineers when the commissioning of projects are taking place.
Essential to this role:
* A Degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in substations, power plants and power transmission systems or BESS.
* Experience or knowledge of SCADA standards and products.
* Knowledge of Networking – VLAN, NAT, and basic principle of switches and routers configuration.
* Knowledge of industrial communication protocol (Modbus, OPC UA, DNP3, IEC-61850).
* To be able to undertake extensive travel domestically and occasionally internationally, in order to perform commissioning works at the project sites.
* A very high attention to detail with excellent time management skill.
* Ability to multi-task and engage multiple projects simultaneously.
Highly Desired Skills - Advantageous - Not Essential
* Knowledge of TCP/IP network communication devices and protocols.
* Experience with DNP3, IEC-61850, IEC-61870-104-5.
* Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices in software products.
* Familiar with Linux OS.
* Working experience with Modern software development management tools including JIRA, GIT, and Confluence.
* Familiar with ssh and tunneling.
* Working experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
* Experience in creating HMI screens.
* Experience with drawing tools to create diagrams such as SLD, P&ID, such as ACAD, or Visio.
