Sweeper and Cleansing Operator



Permanent full-time



38 hours per week, rotating morning shift (3:00am - 12:00pm) and afternoon shift (11:45am – 8:45pm)



Salary: $75,841 – $78,562 per annum + penalties + 12% super

The City of Fremantle is currently seeking suitably experienced Sweeper and Cleansing Operators to support the delivery of its planned Waste and Street Cleansing program. This role operates on a rotating morning and afternoon shift roster, with safe break times.

The Waste and Cleansing teams undertake a variety of tasks to ensure a vibrant and welcoming City for residents and visitors alike, including footpath sweeping, road sweeping, high pressure cleaning, scrubbing, waste collection, bin cleaning and removal of illegal dumping.

The City's Waste and Cleansing team provide high level of street cleansing and public area amenity operating 7 days per week with a morning (3:00am -12:00pm) and afternoon (11:45am – 8:45pm) shift Monday through Friday, and a morning shift on weekends.


Key responsibilities include:



• Operating a range of plant and equipment including large mechanical sweepers, compact sweepers and scrubbers, footpath steamers, and whirly bird to deliver high-quality street and footpath cleaning services.


• Safe handling and application of cleaning agents and chemicals in accordance with safety procedures and environmental guidelines.


• Working collaboratively with the Leading Hand and as part of a small team of six to maintain a clean and presentable City environment.


• Conducting daily plant checks, basic maintenance, and ensuring equipment is clean, operational, and safely stored.


• Responding to cleansing service requests and completing tasks efficiently, with a focus on public safety, cleanliness, and attention to detail.


• Collection and disposal of general waste and illegal dumping.

To be considered for this position, you will need:


• A current and valid HR (Heavy Rigid) driver's licence.


• A strong work ethic with a commitment to safety and quality service delivery in accordance with the City's Service Level Agreement (SLA).


• The ability to work effectively as part of a small team and follow instructions from a Leading Hand.


• A willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and undertake physical tasks.


• Good communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude.


• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure the City's public spaces remain clean, safe, and well-maintained.
