Aboriginal Cancer Care Specialist

This is a key role in our cancer services team, providing support and care navigation for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people with a cancer diagnosis.

The position works collaboratively with existing cancer services staff, Aboriginal Health Services, and Primary Health Care providers to provide leadership and develop clinical practice reflecting the McGrath Model of Care.

* Build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, Elders and Traditional Owners.
* Provide comprehensive support, information, and care navigation for patients with a cancer diagnosis.


Key Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage patient care, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement evidence-based practices.

* Develop and maintain effective partnerships with community groups, health organizations, and other stakeholders to promote cancer awareness and support.
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that ensure cultural safety and respect for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About This Role:

This role is a key component of our cancer services team, working collaboratively with existing staff, Aboriginal Health Services, and Primary Health Care providers to deliver high-quality cancer care.

* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that ensure cultural safety and respect for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.


Selection Criteria:

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
* Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA, with relevant post-registration qualifications and/or at least 3 years' experience working with patients with cancer.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Ability to critically use patient clinical information to manage and navigate care, provide information and education to patients and carers, and escalate clinical concerns.
* Ability to work independently as a member of a multidisciplinary team, with strong time management and organisational skills to meet deadlines.
