The role
TasPorts' Commercial & Trade Team is seeking an experienced General Manager Trade to lead TasPorts' commercial strategy, customer portfolio performance and trade development initiatives to deliver sustainable revenue growth, enhance customer value and support the organisation's role in enabling Tasmania's port, supply chain and economic prosperity.
You will shape and execute commercial strategy across freight, logistics, cruise, bulk commodities, and emerging sectors. This role is central to strengthening relationships with key customers and industry partners, understanding customer needs, identifying new opportunities, and championing initiatives that enhance Tasmania's port capability and competitiveness.
Key Duties
* Lead the development and delivery of TasPorts' commercial and trade strategy.
* Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers, industry stakeholders, and supply‑chain partners.
* Deeply understand customer needs and represent the customer perspective in strategic and operational decision‑making.
* Identify trade growth opportunities and negotiate commercially sound agreements.
* Oversee forecasting, market analysis, and commercial performance reporting.
* Collaborate across the business to support infrastructure planning, operational improvements, and strategic projects.
* Lead a high‑performing Trade team with a focus on capability, culture, and customer value.
* Represent TasPorts in state, national, and industry forums.
About you
We are seeking an outstanding commercial leader who brings:
* Executive‑level experience in trade, freight, logistics, transport, maritime, infrastructure, or a related sector.
* Demonstrated success in strategic commercial development and complex stakeholder engagement.
* Strong relationship‑building capability and a proven ability to understand and respond to customer needs.
* Strong negotiation skills and the ability to convert opportunities into sustainable outcomes.
* Experience leading teams and driving cultural and commercial performance.
* High commercial acumen, analytical capability, and a strategic mindset.
* The ability to thrive in a dynamic environment undergoing growth and transformation.
You will have
Essential
· Tertiary qualification in business, commerce, economics, marketing, engineering or related discipline; or extensive executive-level commercial experience.
· Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
· Current Driver Licence.
Desirable
· Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA or equivalent).
· Formal training in negotiation, leadership or strategy.
· Experience in regulated, asset-intensive or government-owned environments.
· Demonstrated capability in building and maintaining strong customer relationships, including experience engaging with key commercial partners, industry stakeholders and high‑value customers.
