Position Description
Diamantina Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Building Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations across Council’s diverse infrastructure portfolio.
This is a hands-on leadership role delivering essential services that directly support our remote communities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director – Infrastructure Services, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling and managing building and facilities maintenance activities across Council assets, ensuring all works are completed to high standards and in compliance with relevant legislation and building codes.
Council facilities include:
* Council housing
* Community buildings (halls, libraries, visitor information centres, warehouse, accommodation camp)
* Swimming pool facilities
* Water supply and reticulation systems
* Sewerage infrastructure
* Fencing and associated assets
You will lead the Building Maintenance Crew, implement preventative maintenance programs, coordinate contractors and consultants, manage capital works projects, and drive continuous improvement in maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver responsive and programmed maintenance services across multiple trades
* Supervise and mentor trades staff, apprentices and labourers
* Conduct inspections and assess asset condition and lifecycle needs
* Develop and coordinate preventative maintenance programs
* Prepare scopes of work and manage tenders and quotations
* Monitor project budgets and provide monthly updates
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and Council policies
* Maintain accurate records and reporting systems
* Foster strong stakeholder relationships across Council and the community
About You
You will demonstrate:
* Strong leadership and team-building capability
* Sound knowledge of Queensland building codes and construction standards
* Proven experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
* The ability to work independently in a remote environment
Essential Requirements
* Certificate III or IV in General Building Construction (or ability to obtain)
* Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence (or higher)
* Construction Safety Induction (White Card)
* High Risk Work Licence and Plant Competencies (or ability to obtain)
* Pre-employment medical assessment and National Police Check
Desirable
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in building construction and maintenance
* Experience in procurement processes and financial systems
* First Aid and CPR Certificate
* Confined Space Entry Certificate
* Additional plant and machinery competencies
