Job Description

Meaningful work where it matters most

Change lives. Walk alongside communities. Go where support is needed most. This is not a metropolitan desk‐based role — and that's exactly what makes it special.

About the Role

As a StandBy Outreach Worker, you will support the local delivery of the nationally recognised StandBy program, ensuring people bereaved or impacted by suicide receive timely, respectful and culturally responsive care.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide face‐to‐face and telephone support to individuals and families bereaved by suicide.
* Lead and coordinate support sessions, including home visits and outreach services.
* Respond to notifications and incoming support requests.
* Assess needs through risk screening, initial engagement and ongoing support planning.
* Maintain accurate records and case notes within the StandBy database.
* Travel across the Northern Territory as required (including small aircraft travel).
* Support community engagement, education and training using asset‐based community development principles.
* Work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, local services and stakeholders.
* Champion the voice and value of lived experience.
* Contribute feedback, insights and continuous improvement to strengthen service delivery.
* Maintain contemporary knowledge of suicide postvention, grief, trauma and best practice care.
* Ensure service delivery aligns with organisational, contractual and legislative requirements.

About You

Desired Skills and Experience

You're grounded, compassionate and able to work with confidence in complex and emotionally demanding environments. You value autonomy, adaptability and cultural respect.

Qualifications and Experience

* Experience supporting people impacted by suicide, grief, loss or trauma.
* Strong engagement and relationship‐building skills across diverse communities.
* Confidence working independently across geographically spread regions.
* Exceptional communication, documentation and self‐care practice.
* A willingness and comfort travelling regularly — including in small planes.
* Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) — or willingness to obtain (supported upon commencement).

Why join StandBy?

* Work in a mission‐led, values‐driven organisation.
* Play a tangible role in supporting healing after suicide.
* Experience meaningful community engagement across the NT.
* Receive professional support, clinical guidance and reflective practice.
* Be trusted to work autonomously while never working alone.
