The team
The Sustainability, Financial Reporting and Audit (SFA) team is responsible for promoting trust and confidence in the quality of financial and sustainability reporting and their audits.
The team achieves this through financial and sustainability reporting surveillances and audit surveillances designed to drive behavioural change and address poor reporting and auditing practices. SFA also contributes to policy development, education, sector liaison and other initiatives that improve reporting and auditing outcomes across the market.
The role
As a Lawyer – Sustainable Financial Reporting and Audit, you will identify, assess and respond to regulatory issues across the sector that support ASIC's sustainable finance strategy. The role has a strong focus on sustainable finance and contributes to improved outcomes for consumers and investors, better compliance with the law and enhanced market integrity.
You will work collaboratively across ASIC, applying sound legal judgement, regulatory insight and data‐informed analysis to support supervision, policy development and law reform initiatives.
You Will
* Undertake risk‐based supervision and monitoring to assess compliance with financial and sustainability reporting and audit requirements
* Participate in thematic reviews to identify systemic harms and contribute to effective regulatory responses
* Assess applications for relief from legislation administered by ASIC, applying policy, precedent and sound regulatory judgement
* Analyse qualitative and quantitative data to identify regulatory harms, emerging risks and root causes
* Provide legal and technical advice on sustainable finance matters, including sustainability and climate‐related reporting and assurance
* Contribute to policy development, law reform initiatives and the implementation of new guidance and frameworks
* Prepare high‐quality reports, briefings and written advice for senior management and external stakeholders
* Work collaboratively across ASIC to support supervision, compliance and enforcement outcomes
About You
You are a capable and motivated lawyer with strong legal judgement and a genuine interest in sustainable finance, financial reporting and regulatory outcomes. You communicate clearly, enjoy working through complex issues, and are comfortable operating in a fast‐paced regulatory environment.
You Will Also Have
* A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Law, Accounting or Auditing) and membership of a relevant professional body
* Experience interpreting and applying legislation in complex regulatory, industry or organisational contexts
* Knowledge of the Australian financial services industry
* Experience or exposure to sustainable finance, climate‐related or sustainability reporting, ESG analytics or assurance (desirable)
* Strong analytical, research and problem‐solving skills, including data literacy
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
