Our client An established, high-performing commercial property business based in Melbourne's South East and Mornington Peninsula is seeking an experienced and commercially astute General Manager to help take the business into its next phase of growth. This is a true business leadership role with full accountability for day-to-day performance. The mandate is clear: lift commercial discipline, sharpen systems and structure, and build a scalable platform for growth while preserving the relationship‑led, sales‑driven culture that has underpinned the firm's success. This role will suit someone who enjoys running a business end-to-end, whilst developing and implementing plans to scale it.
The role Reporting directly to the Founders, the General Manager will sit at the centre of the business, acting as the operational and commercial backbone that enables high‑performing sales, leasing and property management teams to do their best work. You will own financial performance across the business, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, margins and profitability, while lifting the quality and usefulness of commercial and operational reporting. The role is responsible for integrating and strengthening operations across sales, leasing, property management and administration, bringing consistency, clarity and discipline to how the business runs. A key focus will be reviewing and improving systems, processes and controls, including oversight of CRM and technology platforms, to support scale and efficiency. Just as importantly, you will play a lead role in shaping culture, reducing silos and leading the business through the shift from founder‑centric decision‑making to a more mature, sustainable leadership structure. You will partner closely with the Founders on strategy, succession and the long‑term evolution of the business.
About you This role will suit a people‑focused, commercially minded operator who has successfully helped scale a services‑based business and enjoys balancing strategy with hands‑on execution. You will bring senior leadership experience as a General Manager, COO or similar, ideally within a small to mid‑sized services environment. You will be financially confident, comfortable owning P&L outcomes, and experienced in introducing structure, systems and operational rigour. Experience in professional or business services such as property, recruitment, marketing, accounting or legal is well regarded. You will have strong influencing skills, high emotional intelligence and the credibility to lead change in a relationship‑driven, sales‑focused culture. Tertiary qualifications in business, finance or a related discipline are beneficial, but not essential.
