Base Salary: $110,496 to $116,111 per annum (P2.1 to P2.4)


Who are we?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people's health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.


About the role

The SEWB Practitioner is responsible for the provision of high quality culturally safe, trauma informed counselling, SEWB therapeutic supports and comprehensive mental health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in the Darwin region. This role will provide client-centred support for youth who present with a broad range of issues relating to intergenerational trauma, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, grief and loss, sleep disturbance, domestic violence, sexual problems, relationship issues, and substance misuse. SEWB Practitioners are an integral part of the DDHS Social Emotional Wellbeing team, which is a multidisciplinary team that works together to provide holistic care for youth and their families.


Responsibilities:

Provide high quality counselling and mental health services including clinical risk assessment and therapeutic support to youth clients.

Maintaining high-quality case notes and reports.

Support ongoing development and delivery of evidence based SEWB/MH strategies and practices.

Act only in ways that advance DDHS objectives, values, and reputation and with honesty, integrity, and good faith.

Develop and evaluate the client professional goals with the SEWB Practitioner Team Lead - Youth.


To be successful you will need:

Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or other related allied health disciplines.

Current membership/registration with APHRA, Australian Association of Social Workers or Australian Counselling Association.

Minimum of two years' experience working in a related field.

Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history; and an understanding of social, health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Demonstrate knowledge of current issues, standards, and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal people.

Demonstrated extensive experience in the Mental Health, Social and emotional wellbeing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation methods appropriate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with clients, carers, and other professionals from diverse cultures.

Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.

High personal resilience and flexibility to deal with challenging situations.

Demonstrated computer skills, especially in using client information systems or similar.

Knowledge of the relevant legislation guiding clinical practice for this position.

Current or previous experience working in a mental health setting.

Current or previous experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

Cert III or IV qualification in relevant mental health field/primary health care or equivalent training.


What we offer:

6 weeks annual leave per annum

5 days paid leave during end of year shutdown period (on top of annual leave)

Salary packaging of up to $15,990 per annum
