ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Open Pit Alternate Manager, you will be responsible for the application of rock mechanics principles to mine design, planning and execution. You will work closely with Mine Foremen, Superintendents, Geologists, Surveyors, Engineers and Environmental teams to ensure safe and compliant mining operations.
KEY RESONSIBILITES INCLUDE
* Regular geotechnical inspections across operating areas
* Development, review and ongoing management of Ground Control Management Plans (GCMPs)
* Ensuring compliance with approved GCMPs and relevant legislation
* Monitoring and managing open pit and underground access stability
* Providing geotechnical input into pit, underground and waste dump designs
* Collection, analysis and reporting of geotechnical and structural data
* Liaising with operational and technical teams to optimise ore extraction
* Delivery of ground awareness training to operators and staff
* Managing and scoping consultant work for new pit, waste dump and tailings projects
* Carrying out duties as a Statutory Supervisor as required
* Ensuring compliance with Regulation 10.28 – Geotechnical Considerations (MSIR 1995)
About You
* You will be a motivated and safety-focused geotechnical professional with strong communication skills and proven experience in both open pit and underground environments.
* Essential requirements:
* Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
* Minimum 3 years' post-graduate experience in a similar role
* Experience across open pit and underground mining environments
* Strong capability in geotechnical mapping, logging, analysis and design
* Experience with geotechnical software such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, Map3D, Surpac and rockfall simulation tools
* Excellent report writing and stakeholder communication skills
* Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the operation
* Current unencumbered Western Australian Driver's Licence
* Statutory requirements:
* Must hold and maintain relevant Statutory Supervisor qualifications
* Appointed Site Geotechnical Engineer (or eligible to be appointed)
* Senior First Aid certification (desirable)
