The ACT Instrumental Music Program (IMP) facilitates instrumental tuition in an ensemble setting in schools through an itinerant teaching team of specialist music teachers. This includes brass, woodwind, percussion and ukulele in our primary schools as well as concert band in high schools. The IMP also facilitate the Arts Up Front Conference and Step into the Limelight suite of events. We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative educational leader to support the strategic planning and operations of the IMP. The school leader will join the IMP executive team who work together to lead the implementation of our school priorities. The IMP Deputy Principal will support both IMP SLC’s in the operations of the IMP as well as the Step into the Limelight suite of events. This position requires an innovative leader with demonstrated experience in leading and building collaborative, solutions-focused teams to deliver explicit and intentional teaching, differentiation, and assessment of high impact instrumental music pedagogies. This role requires a dynamic, innovative, and empathetic leader committed to fostering an environment where both staff and students thrive in the arts education space. Job Description: Provide strategic leadership and support for the planning, implementation, and operations of the ACT Instrumental Music Program (IMP). Collaborate with the IMP executive team to deliver school priorities and support the implementation of the Student Centred Improvement Framework. Lead and support SLCs in managing day-to-day operations, ensuring high standards in instrumental music and arts education. Provide support to the SLC (Limelight) in leading the planning and execution of the Step into the Limelight suite of events, contributing to their successful coordination and delivery. Promote innovative leadership in developing high-impact instrumental music pedagogies, with a focus on differentiation and explicit teaching. Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork, promoting solutions-focused approaches and professional learning initiatives. Drive continuous improvement, assessment and reporting processes, focusing on student engagement and achievement. Represent the IMP in educational and community forums and promote strong student relationships and family partnerships. Lead collaborative teaching practices, ensuring cohesive curriculum delivery across IMP programs, performances and events. Develop and implement Directorate policies and projects related to learning and teaching, aligned with strategic priorities. Support the Principal in the development of Professional Learning Communities, focusing on embedding Australian Curriculum V9 to optimise student learning growth. Cultivate respectful and productive relationships with students, staff, and the wider school community. Build teacher capacity through coaching, mentoring, and instructional leadership, enhancing student outcomes through evidence-based teaching practices. Undertake a teaching load (woodwind, brass, percussion, ukulele, and/or high school band) and other duties as determined by the Principal. Eligibility/Other Requirements: A minimum of 4 years full time (or equivalent) tertiary study leading to the award of a recognised school teaching qualification. Mandatory: Current professional teaching registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (or eligibility for teacher registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute). A current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. Ability to play a variety of woodwind or brass instruments.
